A Message from "Van"

Greetings!  My name is "Van" and I'm the grateful Dad of these three cool daughters.

I designed this website for potential kidney donors and their issues.  It provides complete transparency with hard facts about their most pressing concerns and questions donors face, like financial compensation for time off work and out-of-pocket costs, medical coverage and a lifetime kidney guarantee.

My goal is to beat this disease, be there for my daughters and use all my experience in artificial intelligence to help kidney patients and their loved ones get the help they need.

I was a single Dad to three wonderful daughters most of their growing-up years and that, honestly, was an unexpected detour but also the biggest joy of my life. They have given me five grandchildren with another due in June. The little ones call me “Pops.” We are very close.

I pray I’ll get a kidney in time to watch them grow up and have an active role in their lives. I dedicated my life to my girls and, even though they are grown, married and doing well on their own, I’d like to remain in their lives a while longer. I need them and they need me.

My support group of family, cousins and friends is incredible. Their love for me is beyond human understanding. Last but not least, I’m also a devoted pet parent and cook – to Olivia, my Airedale, who keeps me grounded 24/7. I currently live in the Chicago suburbs, but I grew up in West Michigan.

Please Help Us!

Our Dad needs a living donor kidney to survive.

The waiting line for a "cadaver kidney" is 5+ years long.  Dad's doctors say he won't survive that long.  We've all been tested and rejected as living donors for various health reasons.  That's why we are appealing to the public now for an angel and a miracle.

Our Dad has helped so many people in his life who had no voice.  Some had special needs, others suffered poverty and many faced discrimination.  Now he needs your help.

Top 3 Donor Concerns & Fast Answers

Here are the top 3 questions Donors ask:

Question #1: Is donating a kidney safe? Am I risking my life? Could this kill me now or later?

Answer: Kidney donation is very safe. Research shows that risk of death from kidney surgery is about 7 out of 100,000, compared to being born - 558 deaths out of 100,000 - or an appendectomy with more than 2,500 deaths out of 100,000.

Question #2: I worry I'll get kidney disease in my remaining kidney.

Answer: First, according to the National Kidney Registry, no person ever reported a loss of function in their remaining kidney. Second, though the odds are very small you will ever experience a problem in the future, you get a Lifetime Kidney Replacement Guarantee. That means if anything goes wrong in the future, you go to the front of the line and get a new living kidney at no cost.

Question #3: Money is tight and I can't afford to take time off work or pay for any medical or out-of-pocket expenses.

Answer: You will be paid up to $12,000 for lost wages - that’s $2,000 per week up to 6 weeks - and $6,000 for out-of-pocket costs, including child and elder care. Donor Shield even covers the cost of a companion who travels with you to and from surgery. Lastly, all your medical costs are covered 100%.

Please see the Top 3 Donor Questions below. You will be surprised to learn that kidney donors receive:

1. A Lifetime Kidney Replacement Guarantee for their remaining kidney

2. Up to $12,000 for time off work and $6,000 for out-of-pocket costs.
